Ubuntu IT Project Portfolio Manager Job Openings at Canonical
Job Description:

We are looking for a portfolio manager with a proven track record of grasping highly complex problems and developing scalable solutions in a rapid time frame to join our team.
The successful individual will be responsible for converting strategy into action, providing leadership for strategic execution, implementation of a project portfolio, managing escalations as well as relationships with clients, integrators, partners, suppliers and customer teams. International travel will be required.
The Role:
Define scope, project plans and schedules for high-priority projects across several engineering teams, together with engineering managers and technical leads
Track and report progress on these projects within the team and to management, from start to finish Identify cross-organizational project risks as they become evident and escalate or resolve appropriately
Maintain and update a project portfolio in response to changes in priority, scope and progress Manage inter-team dependencies and help to resolve blockage
Provide input to the release process to confirm readiness or identify blocking issues for a milestone
Manage escalations, change controls and risks across all levels and parties; implement, refine and improve structure and process and help to create quality standards and documentation.
Help to define best practices for team coordination, including communication patterns and division of responsibility
Participate in regular development \"sprints\" and debugging events involving international travel
Take executive strategy and lead actions achieve it

Strong experience of project management structure and process (based on PRINCE2 or PMP)
Experience with IT Project Portfolio management
Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills at all levels, including board level.
Ability to command respect and to create a sense of community amongst the members of the project teams
Good knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes and portfolios.
Sufficient credibility to advise project teams on their projects in relation to the programme
Ability to solve and pre-empt problems.
Working with and reporting to stakeholders up to board level and experience managing internal and customer teams as well as partners and suppliers

Strong English language communication skills, especially in on-line environments
Unix/Linux skills are preferable
Wiki skills are a plus
